Our next steps + a renovation update
Hello!
If you've been following us for a short bit, you know our crazy news we told the world just 2 weeks ago.
If you missed it, here's the short (paraphrased version) of what we said.
What's next for us...
"We stepped away for a time (3 wk vacation), came back refreshed, have decided to sell most everything we have including our house, we plan to buy an RV, we are going to renovate said RV and call it home for now AND we plan to travel to serve others beginning THIS SUMMER." (insert bulging eye + laughing emoji)
It was fun to share such a new and exciting part of our journey and how our hearts were being shifted... so now onto what the last 14 days have looked like.
DAY BY DAY.
March 8th Facebook announcement
This was so fun and we've received so much love, encouragement and support. We couldn't be more thankful. It's been awesome!
11th bought our new (tiny) home on wheels
We actually planned to just go see her and see how we felt about this size RV. When we got there, we loved the outside immediately. She was small and sweet and simple. We caught vision for her potential and when we discussed our options and the deal we'd get on the price (Army folks always look out for Army folks....it's a thing), we were ALL IN. We named her before we even left the driveway.
12-13th planned the layout and design for our new travel trailer
As soon as we brought her home and took an even closer look at her I got to work on sketch upon sketch upon sketch, par for the course for me with any upcoming design project.
14th prepped a GIANT online auction
This was pretty wild. The previous Saturday and Sunday I had thrown around the idea that I was going to try to gather all of our large items we owned and would "see" if I'd be able to host a sale by the end of the week. Then after we brought our new soon-to-be home back with us Sunday my heart shifted and I was ALL IN. I announced we were going to be having a HUGE sale and Danny, Leic and I GOT TO WORK (and Edi was our comic relief)! We gathered, measured, photographed and priced ALL the large items we owned and a few of our favorite smaller items and we were READY.
15th hosted our online auction
We were so blessed and blown away by the turn out. It was so much fun! We ended up selling the bulk of our things and we also got the opportunity to donate thousands of dollars of items to sweet people in our community. Having our things in other people's hands is SO much sweeter than holding it in our own.
16th prepped an in-home sale
And as if hosting an online sale with ALL of our larger and favorite items wasn't crazy enough, I was like, "Welp. If we're going through most of it, we may as well just put it all in themed areas in our living, dining room and kitchen and let our community come and TAKE and donate too." and my husband (trusting my crazy ideas and type A organization skills) smiled and said, "Let's do it!" so we did.
17th hosted our in-home sale
They flooded in right at 10am. So many sweet people came, took items home, donated, hugged and encouraged us and continued to donate days later. I really can't say enough about how precious our people are. If you're reading this, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
*** Someday I will write a blog post about our sales, how I organize them, my tips and tricks and some fun ideas to make it less work. I'm 6 sales in now and I LOVE them!
18th DEMO DAY
(Time lapse on Instagram)
We got right to work. The sales were done and it was time to get to our girl. We ripped out pretty much everything but the kitchen bones, bc we knew we'd be leaving the piping and water access the same. Our whole family and our dear friend Ashlee ALL participated. It was blast!
19-24th the "bones"
While my hard working husband got to work on the structure, removal + replacement of old insulation and walls, removal of floors, and so much more, I got to work on our website and the "bones" online. While it's clear how differently my husband and I work and think, we appreciate one another's work ethic and drive to do the job well and as quickly and efficiently as possible. We continue to learn that it's nice to have opposite gifts and talents as your spouse at times, because the point is not to be the same, but to always be shooting for the same goal. It's nice when we can be strong in things that we were made to compliment the other in. And while we don't always get to work together on projects (though, some we do) we are on the same team no matter what we're doing.. kinda like always being able to be two places at once.
Another sweet piece of this is that the girls are a part of EVERYTHING. They love getting to be a part of mama and papa's projects and we love having them see us at work. We want them to have a hand in all that we do and stake ownership of "this wall" or "that screw" or whatever it might be. Teaching them to contribute and the beauty of working as a team is a HUGE goal for us with our small ones.
25th begin Journaling!
This has been my goal since we decided to share our story! When we began telling people our crazy idea, it was so fun to hear feedback and have so many people interested in the journey and all that we were doing and experiencing along the way.
So here we are!
This is where we've been the last 14 days and THIS is where will be sharing the days to come.
We love this renovation and are SO excited for every moment! It's been a whirlwind, but it's been so fun!
We couldn't be more excited about what's ahead and that we now have a little space where we get to share our journey with you.
Thank you so so much for caring, cheering us on and following along.
WELCOME TO OUR JOURNAL!
